MUCC is currently seeking new members for the Camp Facilities Committee. MUCC runs the Michigan Out-of-Doors Youth Camp at the Cedar Lake Outdoor Center in Chelsea, MI. The 250-acre property was originally built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservaton Corps. It is a part of the Waterloo Recreation Area and is owned by the DNR. In 2003, a 75-year lease between MUCC and the DNR was agreed upon for the Michigan Out-of-Doors Youth Camp.

The property is maintained by a small, hardworking crew of volunteers that donate time to help improve and maintain the property each year. We are in need of some new committee members to bring their skills and talents to help with our ongoing maintenance and capital improvements.

Our expectations for the Facilities Committee members include:

  • Attend our spring camp facilities meeting to discuss projects for the spring.
  • Attend our spring and fall cleanups, offer their talents and skills to help with projects throughout the spring to help prepare the property for camp.
  • Use their connections to help find the best people to complete projects outside the scope of the facilities committee.

Typical projects include:

  • Building maintenance
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry
  • Small engine maintenance
  • Grounds work

The Camp Facilities members work extremely flexible schedules in order to make being a part of this committee fit into their lives. Including the meetings and workdays, most of the facilities crews end up at camp six to 12 days a year to help, with projects. At the end of the day, our crew helps with these projects and are a part of the camps facilities committee because they get to help make a difference in getting kids outdoors and into the conservation world.

The camp facilities committee is run by Bob Borchak and all members of the committee work closely with him, along with the MUCC Camp Director Shannon Stover.
